Everything you need to know about Sandestin

Sandestin is a resort community that spans across 2,400 lushly landscaped grounds from the jewel-toned waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the wide expanse of Choctawhatchee Bay in Northwest Florida. This exclusively gated enclave is a wonderful world of its own with over two-dozen “neighborhoods” that vary in architectural style, location, and ambiance. They range from Mediterranean villas to townhome condominiums to luxury beach towers.

The location is an easy drive from most points in the Southeastern United States, approximately five hours from Atlanta, seven from Nashville and only four from New Orleans. Two airports provide quick access and are just 30 to 45 minutes away including the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City Beach and the Destin-Ft. Walton Beach Airport. An Executive Airport for private planes and jets is also located right in Destin and is only fifteen minutes from the Sandestin Resort.

Sandestin is located in the heart of the Emerald Coast, which is named for the luminescent emerald toned waters of the gulf. The powdery sugary shoreline nestled beside the glittering gulf shimmers in the sun due to the composition of pure white quartz crystals that comprise the sand here. Many of the luxury high-rise towers at Sandestin have a prominent placement right on the sugar white dunes to provide panoramic views the gulf.

On the north side of Sandestin is an expansive bay that spans up to five miles across toward the mainland and makes this peninsula resemble an exotic offshore island. A large marina is located here to harbor big yachts and an enchanting Disneyesque version of the New Orleans French Quarter is adjacent. The Village of Baytowne Wharf is absolutely charming with an abundant array of restaurants, lively bars, outdoor musical concerts, amusements for kids and adults alike, specialty shops, seasonal festivals and even fireworks.

Four great golf courses span across the Sandestin Resort including Baytowne, The Raven, The Links and Burnt Pine. The fairways include forests of towering pines, lovely lagoons and pristine bay shore. These renowned golf courses have received scores of official accolades. Golfweek Magazine has listed them on their list of the “Best Courses you can Play” every year since 2011. They have also been featured as “Best Golf in Northwest Florida” and “Top 75 Golf Resorts Worldwide”. Golf for Women magazine listed them as one of the best courses in the nation. Golf Digest named Sandestin as one of the “Top Golf Resorts” nationwide.

Grand Boulevard serves as Sandestin’s opulent Town Center, which is meticulously landscaped with over a million dollars worth of tropical foliage including giant Royal Palms that are magically lighted at night. Grand Park in the center serves as a grassy lawn where children are encouraged to frolic in a fountain of gushing geysers. Specialty shops, fine clothiers, galleries, and restaurants throughout give this upscale retail village a Palm Beach kind of look.

Accommodations on this Florida resort are primarily privately owned homes, condos, and villas. With a wide variety of neighborhoods and high-rise towers, Sandestin has a little something for everyone. View all Sandestin Vacation Rentals by Ocean Reef Resorts.
