With great weather year-round, bars aplenty and an array of attractions, it’s no surprise that Gran Canaria is a popular holiday destination. Known by many as a continent in miniature thanks to its dramatic variations in landscape, this island off the west coast of Africa has plenty to offer visitors.
If you’re planning to take package holidays then consider Falcon Holidays. If you’re heading to this sun-soaked spec in the Atlantic, and want to experience the very best that the destination has to offer; make sure you add the following must see attractions to your travel itinerary.
Gran Canaria certainly isn’t short of stunning sandy spots, but with its undulating dunes, Maspalomas tops them all. Boasting seemingly endless sandy mounds, this beautiful coastal location on the southern tip of the island, is popular among locals and visitors alike. This is the perfect place to take a dip in the ocean, or relax in the sun. Alternatively, if you fancy being a little more active, you can explore the nature reserve, take a ride on a camel, or get stuck into waters ports including sailing and surfing.
Not far from this beach, you’ll find Aqualand. Ideal for families, the waterpark is home to a dizzying array of water slides, as well as plenty of pools. There’s also a water playground for kids to enjoy. You’re bound to work up an appetite while splashing around in the sun, and there is a good selection of cafes and snack stands where you can refuel.
Another family favorite is the Cocodrilo Park in Agüimes. Started by the Balser family when they were asked to look after a few crocodiles, it now boasts an impressive collection of these aquatic reptiles. There are also other creatures to observe in the park, including chimpanzees, various species of monkey, Bengal tigers, and birds.
Last but not least on this short list; make sure you squeeze a trip to Sioux City into your sightseeing itinerary. Located in San Bartolome de Tirajana near San Agustin, this western style theme park is characterised by its canyon and cacti. Everything in the park is a replica of the American Wild West, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped straight onto a film set as soon as you set foot through the entrance. The park also stages regular shows featuring a mixture of brawls, chases and duals, and is also home to a small zoo.
Of course, these are just some of the tourist hotspots on offer in Gran Canaria. There are many other attractions for you to explore when on the island.
